Egon Schiele Secession 49 Ausstellung Poster

From: 20,40 €
Typography as the subject: lettering stacked in a narrow column, weights changing line to line, a small block of colour holding the composition. Exhibition posters of the Vienna Secession treated a notice as a piece of design, type drawn rather than set, space used as an active element.

Egon Schiele Seated Woman with Legs Poster

From: 20,40 €
A woman seated with her legs drawn across the sheet at an angle, knees sharp, hands clasped, clothing reduced to a few dark shapes, most of the paper left bare. Schiele drew the body as something seen up close and without comfort and the bare ground is part of the

Egon Schiele Provocative Art Poster

From: 20,40 €
A standing figure with the arms pulled in and the shoulders twisted, drawn with a nervous line that thickens and thins within a single stroke, the background bare. Viennese drawing at the beginning of the twentieth century treated the body as a subject for honesty rather than for idealisation.

Egon Schiele Artwork Poster

From: 20,40 €
A figure drawn with a hard, economical line, awkwardly posed and cropped by the edge of the sheet, colour applied thinly to a few areas, hands and feet exaggerated. Schiele drew the body as something seen up close and the empty paper does as much work as the marks.

Kandinsky Yellow Red Blue Poster

From: 20,40 €
Three colour masses arguing across a pale ground: yellow pulling to one corner, red pressing in from another, a blue curve cutting between them. Kandinsky taught at the Bauhaus and used colour as a system there, assigning weight and direction to hues and treating composition as their relation.

Kandinsky Small Worlds IV Poster

From: 20,40 €
A composition built around one thick black ring: diagonal bars in teal, orange and grey cutting across it, a grey bird form, a black chequerboard wedge, small eyes and triangles scattered around, and thin black lines running through everything like wire. Pigment print on 210 gsm Hahnemühle paper, sizes from 30×40

Kandinsky Small Worlds I Poster

From: 20,40 €
Thin lines and translucent shapes stacked so that they overlap without hiding each other, like glass laid on paper, triangles and arcs holding the centre. Kandinsky made a portfolio of prints in the early 1920s, testing how far abstraction could go while still holding together as a picture.

It stands as a testament to

Kandinsky Four Parts Poster

From: 20,40 €
Four zones of colour held inside a frame, each built from circles, angles and crossing lines that seem to be in motion, nothing centred, nothing at rest. Kandinsky argued that painting should work like music, colour and form carrying feeling without describing anything. The picture is an argument about balance

Kandinsky Color Study Poster

From: 20,40 €
Small patches of colour across a pale ground, each enclosed by a drawn boundary, some touching and some held apart, circles meeting squares. The sheet reproduces a colour study by Wassily Kandinsky of the kind he made while teaching at the Bauhaus in the 1920s, where hue was treated as

Van Gogh View of Saintes-Maries Poster

From: 20,40 €
A coastline seen from a distance, the sea in short horizontal strokes, the sand in longer ones, a few small figures near the water, the horizon set high. Van Gogh painted the Mediterranean coast in the years he worked in the south of France, treating the sea as a surface

Van Gogh Pink Peach Trees Poster

From: 20,40 €
Blossom against a pale sky, short strokes left visible, the ground a band of warm colour, branches drawn rather than modelled. The orchards of southern France gave Van Gogh a subject he returned to in spring after spring, painted against light that flattened the distance. The blossom is painted as

Van Gogh The Pink Peach Tree Poster

From: 20,40 €
A single peach tree in full blossom filling the frame, its branches drawn as dark, angular lines against clouds of white and pink, the sky a cold blue behind. Behind it, an orchard in flower and a fence; in front, grass painted in short diagonal strokes. Pigment print on 210 gsm

Van Gogh Almond Blossom Poster

From: 20,40 €
Branches crossing a pale sky, blossom painted with short even strokes, the blue behind them flat and cool, the tree cropped so it fills the sheet. Van Gogh painted flowering branches in the south of France as a subject of celebration, keeping the sky simple so the blossom would carry

William Morris Cray Poster

From: 20,40 €
A repeating pattern of intertwined stems, leaves and small flowers, drawn so the composition has no centre and no edge, the colour held to a few flat tones. Cray is a textile pattern designed by William Morris in 1884, in the years when he was producing wallpapers, fabrics and printed

William Morris Centenary Exhibition Poster

From: 20,40 €
Leaves, stems and small flowers locked into a repeating grid that runs across the whole sheet without a seam. William Morris insisted that ornament be made by hand and by people who could live from it and a centenary exhibition poster carries that argument as a pattern rather than as

Stuart Davis Landscape Space No. 4 Poster

From: 20,40 €
Three colours doing all the work, with heavy black lines weaving between them so no shape sits quietly, space flattened and rhythm set by intervals of colour. The reduction to a handful of tones and an insistent line came out of American painting between the wars, when structure was borrowed

Hilma Af Klint Tree of Knowledge No. 7b Poster

From: 20,40 €
Fine lines in symmetry, circles and arcs repeating around a central axis, colour in pale washes, closer to a diagram than to a scene. The abstract series behind it were kept out of public view for years and treat geometry as a language for things that cannot be shown directly.

Hilma Af Klint Tree of Knowledge No. 5 Poster

From: 20,40 €
Hilma af Klint, Tree of Knowledge No. 5: a pale green petal shape opening inside two great wings, one black and one white, with a white circle below holding two more petals and a small figure at the base. Fine pencil line, soft washes, and a geometry that feels botanical

Hilma Af Klint Tree of Knowledge No. 2 Poster

From: 20,40 €
Symmetrical forms around a vertical axis, fine lines, pale colour, no horizon and no perspective, the sheet reads as a diagram rather than a scene. Hilma af Klint treated geometry as a language for something that cannot be depicted directly and kept most of her series out of sight.

Hilma Af Klint Tree of Knowledge No. 1 Poster

From: 20,40 €
Symmetrical forms around a central axis, delicate line work and pale colour on a light ground. Hilma af Klint made abstract compositions years before the artists usually credited with inventing abstraction and kept most of them private, this sheet looks closer to a chart or a botanical study than to

Hilma Af Klint Tree of Knowledge No. 6 Poster

From: 20,40 €
Fine lines arranged in a symmetrical structure, circles and arcs repeating around an axis, colour applied in pale washes that overlap where the shapes meet. The abstract series behind it treat geometry as a language for things that cannot be shown directly, with colour used as notation rather than decoration.

William Morris Pimpernel Poster

From: 20,40 €
A pattern repeating in two directions: leaves and flowers interlaced so densely that the eye cannot find a centre, colour held to two or three flat tones, no top and no bottom. William Morris argued that decoration should be made by hand and understood by everyone and his patterns avoided

William Morris Blackthorn Poster

From: 20,40 €
A pattern of blackthorn branches carrying small blossom and dark berries, drawn so stems curve and cross without ever meeting at a centre, the design repeating in both directions. Blackthorn is one of the repeating patterns designed by William Morris, who worked from plant studies rather than ornament books.

William Morris Snakeshead Poster

From: 20,40 €
Sinuous stems carrying fritillary heads, the flowers at different heights so the pattern moves in a slow rhythm, line even and colour flat. Snakeshead was designed by William Morris in 1876, when his workshop argued that British decoration could be recovered by hand processes and close observation of plants.

Matisse Landscape Poster

From: 20,40 €
A landscape reduced to overlapping fields of colour, hills as curves and trees as flat shapes, the sky one tone from edge to edge. The painting reproduced here was made by Henri Matisse in 1905 at Collioure, in the summer that gave the Fauves their name, with colour used as

Klee and Kandinsky Poster

From: 20,40 €
Two graphic languages on one sheet: geometric forms held in strict relation on one side, softer drifting shapes on the other, flat colour throughout. Kandinsky and Klee taught side by side at the Bauhaus and their friendship shaped the school’s thinking about colour, form and the line as a record

Yayoi Kusama Fruits Poster

From: 20,40 €
Fruit shapes drawn large and covered in dots, each set against a ground of a single colour that pushes the object forward, the pattern following the curve of the form so the fruit looks wrapped rather than decorated. The strategy takes something ordinary and makes it insistent: a fruit repeated

Taguchi Tomoki Woodblock IX Poster

From: 20,40 €
A single stem rising across the sheet, leaves at intervals, a bird or an insect placed where the eye lands last, contour even, colour inside the line. Woodblock printing was a joint production of designer, cutter and printer and that division of labour produced a discipline visible in the result.

Matisse Cut-Outs Exhibition 1970 Poster

From: 20,40 €

How to choose among the artists

Start with the space. A dark corner calls for something bright and open; a busy surface wants one strong image rather than several; a calm bedroom rewards work you can look at slowly.

The picture should answer a problem the room already has. Once you know which problem that is, the name becomes much less important than the picture.

The names, and what each one does

  • Picasso — line, faces, and exhibition prints from a career that kept changing.
  • Van Gogh — blossom, orchards and paint you can feel.
  • Matisse — colour as the whole subject, and paper cut-outs.
  • Kandinsky — geometry that behaves like music.
  • Schiele — a line that never flatters.
  • William Morris — pattern that orders a room.
  • Kusama — dots that dissolve the shape they describe.
  • Taguchi — birds and plants drawn in a single contour.

How to compare two candidates

Move between names freely and shortlist three, not thirty. The question is not who is more important; it is which picture you would still want to see after a month. A small shortlist is far easier to judge than a whole page of options.

If two pictures compete, hang the quieter one where you walk past it and the louder one where you sit. For the second option, the iconic prints are the usual answer.

Sizes, paper and delivery

Every print is on 210 gsm Hahnemühle paper, 30×40 to 70×100 cm plus A3 and A2, frame not included. Dispatch within 24 hours, 3–5 working days in the EU, tracked.
