Details
Van Gogh painted this orchard in the first spring he spent in the south, and the whole picture is about the moment the blossom appears: the branches are still bare in places, the flowers come in clusters.
The brushwork is the subject as much as the tree — short strokes in every direction, blue under the white, the grass built from repeated diagonals.
It suits a bedroom, a living room or a hallway. 50×70 cm; a light frame and a wide mount keep the sky from looking cold.
