Picasso posters: exhibition prints from a career that changed modern art
Pablo Picasso (1881–1973) was a Spanish painter, sculptor and printmaker who, together with Georges Braque, developed Cubism — the movement that broke the painted image into planes and fragments. The posters in this collection are reproductions of exhibition posters and lithographs made for museums, galleries and print dealers: from the Paris exhibitions of the 1950s to the ceramics he produced in Vallauris.
What is in this collection
- Exhibition posters — made for shows at galleries and museums, including the 1954 Paris exhibition poster, Estampes, Le Mer and Galerie 65. They carry the typography of the original: the lettering is part of the design, not decoration around it.
- Ceramics — from 1946 Picasso worked with the Madoura pottery in Vallauris, turning plates, jugs and tiles into painted objects. Céramique 1948 and the ceramics exhibition poster bring that earthy, hand-painted palette into a room.
- Peace — Picasso et la Paix comes from his peace work: the dove he drew for the peace congresses of the late 1940s became one of the most reproduced images of the century.
- Line and silhouette — Picasso Black is the quietest piece in the set: white space, a single dark form, nothing to distract.
How to choose one
If the wall is already busy — dark paint, a gallery wall, a lot of furniture — go for Picasso Black or one of the exhibition posters. They hold a room without shouting. If the room is pale and minimal, the ceramics posters add warmth: ochre, terracotta and deep blue against a light background.
Picasso also works well in pairs. Next to a Matisse it covers the two poles of twentieth-century colour; next to Bauhaus it becomes a conversation about geometry and line. Both come on the same paper.
Sizes, paper and delivery
Every poster is printed on Hahnemühle paper and is available in sizes from 30×40 to 70×100 cm, plus A3 and A2. Smaller sizes suit a desk, a hallway or a gallery wall; 70×100 cm is the one that carries a sofa or a bed. Orders leave the studio within 24 business hours, delivery in the EU takes 3–5 working days (3–6 outside the EU), and every parcel is tracked.
Why an exhibition poster and not a plain print
A poster made to sell a show had to work at a glance: a strong image, a legible name, a date. That discipline is why they still look right on a wall decades later, and why they read as art rather than as decoration.
