Van Gogh posters: colour pushed further than anyone before him
Vincent van Gogh (1853–1890) worked as a painter for only the last ten years of his life, and in that time he changed what colour was allowed to do. His later pictures use colour as structure — a blue that carries the whole sky, a blossom that holds a branch without being drawn. That is why his work survives the jump from museum wall to living room better than almost any other painter's.
What is in this collection
- The orchards of Arles — in spring 1888 van Gogh painted the flowering fruit trees around Arles over and over, treating pink and white blossom as a study in light: Pink Peach Trees, The Pink Peach Tree and The White Orchard Tree.
- Almond Blossom — Almond Blossom was painted in 1890 to mark the birth of his brother Theo's son. Branches against a flat blue sky, almost no perspective: the calmest picture he made.
- The Mediterranean — View of Saintes-Maries comes from the fishing village he painted on the coast of Provence.
- Vintage exhibition posters — the 1960 exhibition poster carries the typography of a mid-century museum show.
How to choose one
Almond Blossom is the one for a bedroom or above a sofa: blue and white, quiet, and it holds a large format without dominating. The peach and orchard pictures are warmer — pink, cream and pale green — and suit a room with light walls and natural wood. Saintes-Maries works small: a hallway, a kitchen wall, a shelf propped against the wall.
Two orchard paintings side by side make an easy pair, because they share a palette and a season. If you want contrast, hang one Van Gogh next to a Bauhaus print: the hand-painted line against the geometric one.
Sizes, paper and delivery
Every poster is printed on Hahnemühle paper and is available in sizes from 30×40 to 70×100 cm, plus A3 and A2. Orders leave the studio within 24 business hours, delivery in the EU takes 3–5 working days (3–6 outside the EU), and every parcel is tracked.
Why these are posters, not just prints
The exhibition poster is a format with its own rules: one image, one name, one date, readable from across a room. Reproducing a painting inside that frame changes how you look at it — the poster asks you to stop for a second, which is exactly what a wall needs.
