Takai Exhibition Poster

From: 90,00 zł
A vertical rhythm: a few shapes stacked on a narrow axis, colour in flat areas, lettering small and set to one side, the spaces between shapes carrying as much weight as the shapes. Japanese exhibition posters of the post-war decades were admired abroad for exactly this restraint. Restraint here is

Yayoi Kusama Window Poster

From: 90,00 zł
A frame filled with repeating shapes seen as though through an opening, the pattern continuing past the edges of the view. The composition belongs to Yayoi Kusama’s graphic work, in which a repeating field builds space without perspective: instead of a horizon an edge, instead of depth repetition.

Colorful Kanji Harmony Poster

From: 90,00 zł
A graphic built from five vertical strips of brush writing, black, red, green, blue, yellow, each column of characters overlapping its neighbour. The colours are printed flat, so the script reads as pattern before it reads as language. Wide walls and low furniture suit it best. The characters were written

Kyoto Astro Boy Poster

From: 90,00 zł
A figure in flight across a flat green ground, drawn with the clean contours of animation: large eyes, simplified body, hair suggested by a few points. The character is Astro Boy, created by Osamu Tezuka in the early 1950s and this Kyoto edition sets him against a green field that

Intergalactic Ramen Poster

From: 90,00 zł
A bowl of noodles treated as a graphic object: bowl as shape, noodles as lines, steam as a few curves, the background in a colour that has nothing to do with food. Japanese food graphics have a long tradition of making the ordinary look strange and desirable at once.

Japanese Cocktail Poster

From: 90,00 zł
A glass drawn with a few confident lines, its contents suggested by bands of colour, a small garnish on the rim, lettering set in a column to one side. Japan developed its own language of commercial graphics after the war: flat colour, simple silhouettes, type treated as a graphic element

Yayoi Kusama Infinity Dots Poster

Onigira Hot Rice Balls Poster

From: 90,00 zł
Japanese snack culture made the rice ball an everyday thing and this poster turns it into a small act of bravado: a dragon coiled around the heat. The drawing stays tight, the palette narrow and the date sits quietly at the foot of the sheet the way a printer would

Matsutani Propagation Poster

From: 90,00 zł
The Matsutani Propagation Poster is an arresting display of Takesada Matsutani's unique artistic vision, blending bold forms with deep, resonant colors. This poster embodies the spirit of innovation and is a vibrant tribute to the Gutai movement's legacy.

Onchi Koshiro Art Poster

From: 90,00 zł
Shapes that look carved rather than drawn: a face or a form built from overlapping blocks of colour, edges rough where the block was cut, the paper showing through. Onchi Kōshirō was one of the founders of the sōsaku-hanga movement, which argued that a print should be the artist’s own

Hasui Temple Nara Poster

From: 90,00 zł
A temple seen through rain, the roof one dark shape, steps and courtyard suggested by horizontal lines, the falling rain drawn rather than painted. Kawase Hasui worked in the shin-hanga tradition, which revived the woodblock for landscape and its central subject was weather: snow, rain, dusk and the moment a

Matsutani In The Morning 01 Poster

From: 90,00 zł
A single geometric form rising from a flat ground, edges hard and colour even, a thin horizontal band holding the composition at rest. Japanese abstract printmaking of the post-war decades often reduced a landscape to its simplest structure: a horizon, a rising form and one change of tone.

Yayoi Kusama Butterfly Poster

From: 90,00 zł
A butterfly drawn over a dark ground, its wings built from rows of small pale dots rather than from outline or shading, so the insect eventually stops separating from the field behind it. The dot has been this artist's central device since the 1950s, a way of dissolving a shape

Taguchi Tomoki Woodblock XI Poster

From: 90,00 zł
A bird or a flower drawn with an outline of even weight, colour laid inside the line in flat areas, the background left as paper. The print belongs to Yatsuo no tsubaki, the series Taguchi Tomoki made between 1860 and 1869, cut and printed block by block in the traditional

Taguchi Tomoki Woodblock X Poster

From: 90,00 zł
A flowering branch drawn across the sheet at an angle, blossoms as flat shapes, the background left as paper, the line varying in weight so the branch has direction. Japanese woodblock printing was a joint production of designer, cutter and printer and that discipline is visible in the result.

Yayoi Kusama Flowers Poster

From: 90,00 zł
A cluster of blossoms filling the sheet, every petal patterned with small dots and every stem drawn as a curve, so the flowers read as a single organism. Flowers appear throughout this artist's work as a subject that can be simplified until it becomes a pattern and then repeated until

Taguchi Tomoki Woodblock VIII Poster

From: 90,00 zł
A horse drawn in mid-stride, its body built from a few confident curves, mane and tail suggested by short strokes, the ground left blank. The print belongs to Yatsuo no tsubaki, the series Taguchi Tomoki produced between 1860 and 1869 and the horse is one of its legendary subjects.

Taguchi Tomoki Woodblock VII Poster

Taguchi Tomoki Woodblock VI Poster

From: 90,00 zł
A bird perched on a flowering branch, flowers drawn as small circles and leaves as flat ovals, the arrangement placed high on the sheet with the lower half left empty. Japanese woodblock printing was built from a division of labour: designer, cutter and printer each did one thing.

Taguchi Tomoki Woodblock V Poster

From: 90,00 zł
Butterflies and birds arranged around a flowering stem, each drawn with a fine contour and filled with a single flat tone, the background left as paper. The sheet comes from Yatsuo no tsubaki, the series Taguchi Tomoki made between 1860 and 1869, in the last years of the Edo period.

This poster is not only a visual spectacle but also embodies Kusama's exploration of infinity and interconnectedness, rendered in her iconic red and white

Yayoi Kusama Infinity Nets Poster

From: 90,00 zł
An all-over surface of small arcs, painted without a sketch and without a focus point, so the eye keeps travelling and never settles, the pattern running from edge to edge. The nets were started in New York on canvases far larger than the painter, and the intention was repetition as

Yayoi Kusama Pumpkin

From: 90,00 zł
A rounded form covered in a net of repeating dots, each one placed by hand, the pattern bending where the surface curves, the object filling the sheet. The pumpkin is one of the recurring subjects in Yayoi Kusama’s work and the dot is the unit that builds it, repeated until

Taguchi Tomoki Woodblock IV Poster

From: 90,00 zł
Two birds on a branch that enters from the left and stops before the right edge, so the composition leans rather than balances, the contour even and the colour flat. Japanese woodblock printing divided the work between designer, cutter and printer, and the empty paper does half the work here.

Taguchi Tomoki Woodblock III Poster

From: 90,00 zł
A deep green rectangle filling most of the sheet, with three small birds drawn in silver-grey line across it — wings swept back, mid-flight — and a column of calligraphy down the right-hand edge. Nothing else: green, three birds, paper. Pigment print on 210 gsm Hahnemühle paper, sizes from 30×40 to

Yayoi Kusama Pumpkin 1998 Poster

From: 90,00 zł

Taguchi Tomoki Woodblock II Poster

From: 90,00 zł
A botanical plate in which flowers and leaves are drawn with an even, patient line and filled with flat colour, the paper left bare between the stems. The print belongs to Yatsuo no tsubaki, the series Taguchi Tomoki produced between 1860 and 1869, at the end of the Edo period.

Japanese posters: the line, the pattern, the silence

Most of what is here comes from woodblock printing — either the finished print or the pattern books that fed it. Taguchi Tomoki's pages were drawn to be copied onto lacquer, cloth and ceramics, which is why a bird drawn in a single contour can hold a wall at 70×100 cm.

The rest runs from Hasui's temple scenes and Onchi's modern prints to calligraphy, and then forward into work that carries the same rhythm in a contemporary voice: Kusama's dots, kanji set as colour, and the graphic end of Japanese pop.

What is in this collection

  • Taguchi Tomoki — birds, butterflies and botanical studies in one continuous line.
  • Hasui — shin-hanga temple scenes, printed in the old way.
  • Onchi Kōshirō — the modern print, cropped and close.
  • Calligraphy — brush writing at poster scale.
  • Modern Japanese graphics — Kyoto, ramen, cocktails, rice balls.

The one card that gathers all of this on a single sheet is the Onigira poster with a roaring dragon above two rice balls. It comes out of snack packaging rather than printmaking, and it uses that vocabulary well: heavy black line, a starburst behind the rice, and lettering that behaves like part of the illustration. Nothing about it is understated, which is why it works on a wall that the quieter pages have left too calm.

How to choose one

Decide between pattern and picture. A Taguchi page is a pattern with a large margin of white; a temple scene is a picture with a horizon. They ask for different walls: the pattern wants a plain surface and a wide mount, the picture wants a room with some depth.

One print on white is almost always enough. If you want a group, keep them from the same book or the same period, equal frames, equal gaps — the Japanese print wall fails when the margins are uneven.

Why the empty paper matters

In these prints the white is not background, it is part of the design. A heavy frame or a coloured mount closes it in and the picture loses its air. Thin black frame, generous white mount, and nothing hung close beside it.

For the softer European version of the same idea, see floral.
