Taguchi Tomoki Woodblock XI Poster

From: 90,00 zł
A bird or a flower drawn with an outline of even weight, colour laid inside the line in flat areas, the background left as paper. The print belongs to Yatsuo no tsubaki, the series Taguchi Tomoki made between 1860 and 1869, cut and printed block by block in the traditional

Taguchi Tomoki Woodblock X Poster

From: 90,00 zł
A flowering branch drawn across the sheet at an angle, blossoms as flat shapes, the background left as paper, the line varying in weight so the branch has direction. Japanese woodblock printing was a joint production of designer, cutter and printer and that discipline is visible in the result.

Taguchi Tomoki Woodblock VIII Poster

From: 90,00 zł
A horse drawn in mid-stride, its body built from a few confident curves, mane and tail suggested by short strokes, the ground left blank. The print belongs to Yatsuo no tsubaki, the series Taguchi Tomoki produced between 1860 and 1869 and the horse is one of its legendary subjects.

Taguchi Tomoki Woodblock VII Poster

From: 90,00 zł
The Taguchi Tomoki Woodblock VII Poster from "Yatsuo no Tsubaki" is an exquisite example of the Japanese 'kacho-e' genre, presenting a nature-inspired motif rendered with a fluid, abstract elegance. The poster reflects the traditional woodblock printing techniques of the Edo period, highlighting Taguchi's skillful use of line and negative space to

Taguchi Tomoki Woodblock VI Poster

From: 90,00 zł
A bird perched on a flowering branch, flowers drawn as small circles and leaves as flat ovals, the arrangement placed high on the sheet with the lower half left empty. Japanese woodblock printing was built from a division of labour: designer, cutter and printer each did one thing.

Taguchi Tomoki Woodblock V Poster

From: 90,00 zł
Butterflies and birds arranged around a flowering stem, each drawn with a fine contour and filled with a single flat tone, the background left as paper. The sheet comes from Yatsuo no tsubaki, the series Taguchi Tomoki made between 1860 and 1869, in the last years of the Edo period.

Taguchi Tomoki Woodblock IV Poster

From: 90,00 zł
Two birds on a branch that enters from the left and stops before the right edge, so the composition leans rather than balances, the contour even and the colour flat. Japanese woodblock printing divided the work between designer, cutter and printer, and the empty paper does half the work here.

Taguchi Tomoki Woodblock III Poster

From: 90,00 zł
A deep green rectangle filling most of the sheet, with three small birds drawn in silver-grey line across it — wings swept back, mid-flight — and a column of calligraphy down the right-hand edge. Nothing else: green, three birds, paper. Pigment print on 210 gsm Hahnemühle paper, sizes from 30×40 to

Taguchi Tomoki Woodblock II Poster

From: 90,00 zł
A botanical plate in which flowers and leaves are drawn with an even, patient line and filled with flat colour, the paper left bare between the stems. The print belongs to Yatsuo no tsubaki, the series Taguchi Tomoki produced between 1860 and 1869, at the end of the Edo period.

Taguchi Tomoki Woodblock I Poster

From: 90,00 zł
A bird on a branch, the branch drawn first and the bird placed on it, contour of even weight, colour flat inside the line, the sheet mostly paper. Nineteenth-century Japanese woodblock printing was a collaboration of designer, cutter and printer, and the discipline produced an image without shading.

Taguchi Tomoki Crane Poster

From: 90,00 zł
A crane drawn with a contour of even weight, wings opened, body filled with flat colour, background left as paper, the empty space used as deliberately as the marks. Nineteenth-century Japanese woodblock printing divided the work between designer, cutter and printer and the discipline is visible in the result.

Taguchi Tomoki Woodblock IX Poster

From: 90,00 zł
A single stem rising across the sheet, leaves at intervals, a bird or an insect placed where the eye lands last, contour even, colour inside the line. Woodblock printing was a joint production of designer, cutter and printer and that division of labour produced a discipline visible in the result.

Taguchi Tomoki posters, and the pages drawn to be copied

Taguchi drew pattern books rather than pictures: designs for lacquer, textiles and ceramics, made to be lifted out and used. That is why his pages look the way they do — a small subject on a largely empty sheet, nothing centred.

Two circular botanical studies one above the other, a pale chrysanthemum in thin outline and a dark branching form like coral beneath it is the clearest case: one object in line, one solid, text to the right, the rest left white. The botanical page from the same book fills more of its sheet; birds and butterflies in flight over a pale ground is the liveliest of the three.

Keep the white around them.
