The image
A field of gold that changes across the sheet: warmer where the light hits, cooler at the edges, with a single darker element holding the centre. The surface is flat but not even, so the picture moves as the viewer does.
Where it comes from
Metallic grounds have been used in painting and printing for centuries because they refuse to stay still: gold reflects the room rather than describing it. Poster printing borrowed the effect whenever the budget allowed a metallic ink and the result is a sheet that behaves like an object rather than like a picture. It takes its colour from wherever it is hung, which is why the same print can look warm in the evening and almost silver by day.
On the wall
It suits a study, a hallway or a living room with dark furniture, where a warm metallic field provides light without a subject. Because the surface reflects, it needs a wall that receives daylight rather than a dark corner. In a group it should be the piece that holds the centre.
In company
The Minimal collection is the obvious place to look for a neighbour.Avoid hanging it opposite a bright window, the reflection would flatten the surface.
