The image
A koala drawn with a soft, rounded outline, sitting on a branch that curves across the sheet. The colour is flat and friendly, the shapes simplified to the point where the animal reads as a symbol rather than a study. Nothing is detailed: no fur, no bark texture, no background scenery.
Where it comes from
This is a contemporary graphic rather than a historical poster, and it belongs to a long tradition of animal illustration made for children: the subject reduced to its most recognisable features so that it can be understood before it can be read. The flat colour and the simple contour are what make that work at any size.
On the wall
It belongs in a child’s room, a nursery or a play corner, where the scale of the image matches the height of the person looking at it. Because the palette is warm and the shapes are simple, it sits comfortably beside toys without competing. It also works in a small bathroom, where a friendly face helps.
In company
Pairs well with other animal prints and with pale wood furniture, and it can be hung in a row of three or four without looking repetitive. In a child’s room, hanging it lower than usual is the difference between decoration and something a child actually looks at. If the wall is to hold another sheet, the rest of the Fusion Gallery collection follows the same rules.
