The image
A lightsource breaking through darkness from below, its outline irregular, the landscape around it reduced to a silhouette. The lettering sits small at the top and the sheet gives most of its space to the sky, so the picture is about what is arriving rather than about who is watching.
Where it comes from
Science fiction posters of the 1970s discovered that a glow could do the work of a monster: light from an unseen source, a horizon, a title. The approach belonged to the years when special effects were expensive and suggestion was cheap and it produced some of the most restrained graphics of the decade, a single beam and a lot of black.
On the wall
It suits a studio, a hallway or a living room with dark furniture, where a dark image with a single light source reads well. Because the palette is restricted, it needs a wall that is not too dark and light falling on it from the front. In a group it should be the piece that holds the centre.
In company
If you want company for it, the Movie collection is where to look.Avoid hanging it beside bright work, the beam needs darkness around it to read as a beam.
