The image

Where it comes from
Film posters of the period often worked with two inks and a single halftone image, because that was what a distributor could afford and what a printer could deliver in a week. The approach gave documentary material a graphic weight it would not have had in colour: a face, a crowd, a moment, all flattened into one tone. This sheet belongs to a documentary about a tour that ended badly, and the design carries that tension by refusing to decorate anything.
On the wall
It suits a studio, a hallway or a living room with dark furniture, where a black field and one image give a wall weight. Because the composition is dense, it needs a plain surface around it and light falling evenly. In a group it should be the piece that holds the centre.
