The image
A hand-drawn scene filling the sheet, the figures exaggerated into caricature, one colour printed over bare paper and the lettering squeezed into the lower edge. The line is loose and quick, and the whole composition looks made in an afternoon for a wall that would be pasted over by the weekend.
Where it comes from
Club flyers of the 1980s were made the way flyers were made then: one screen, one colour, whatever paper was to hand. Bands paid for them themselves and printers worked fast, so the drawings had the exaggeration of a cartoon rather than the finish of an advertisement. That constraint produced a graphic language that outlived its purpose, and sheets of this kind are now collected as examples of it.
On the wall
It brings energy and a bit of noise into a room, so it suits a studio, a hallway, a teenager’s room or a kitchen with strong colour. Because the composition is dense and the palette reduced, it needs a plain wall around it. In a group it should be the piece that sets the volume.
In company
The rest of the Music collection holds pieces from the same years and the same printing habits.Avoid hanging it beside polished, formal work, where the roughness would read as damage rather than as method.
