The image
A bull drawn from flat shapes and one continuous line, its body built out of black against a coloured ground, the head turned and the horns reduced to two strokes. The lettering is set in condensed capitals, evenly spaced, with the information small beneath the image.
Where it comes from
The motif returns again and again in the drawings of the architect who made this sheet: part animal, part sign, assembled rather than observed. He drew every morning before turning to buildings, and the discipline of the line came from that habit. Exhibition posters of the period often reproduced a drawing rather than a painting, because a drawing survived printing and made the sheet feel like a note from the studio rather than an advertisement.
On the wall
It suits a study, a hallway or a living room with modern furniture, where a strong line and a single colour carry the wall. Because the composition is centred and the palette limited, it works on a narrow wall as well as a wide one. In a group it should be the piece that sets the rhythm.
