The image
A car drawn in profile, its shape simplified to a single contour, with the background reduced to a band of colour and the lettering set in a clean geometric face. The image is confident and still: no speed lines, no drama, just the object presented.
Where it comes from
French car advertising of the mid-century sold design as much as engineering and Peugeot, a family firm that had been making tools and bicycles before cars, was well placed to argue that a vehicle could be an object of taste. Posters of that era were printed in flat colour because it reproduced well at size and because it made the shape unmistakable.
On the wall
It suits a study, a workshop or a hallway with industrial furniture, where a single object on a plain ground works. Because the composition is horizontal and calm, it fits above a desk or a low shelf. In a modern interior it reads as a design document rather than as nostalgia.
In company
Pairs well with photography of architecture and with transport posters. In a group it should be given space, since the silhouette needs air around it. A plain frame keeps the object reading as an object. Other sheets in the Vintage collection work the same way on a wall.
